Zircon (U-Th)/He Closure Temperature Lower Than Apatite Thermochronometric Systems: Reconciliation of a Paradox

چکیده

Here, we present seven new zircon (U-Th)/He (ZHe) ages and three fission track (ZFT) analyzed from an age-elevation profile (Machu Picchu, Peru). ZFT data older than those obtained with other thermochronological data, whereas the ZHe interestingly similar to apatite (AHe). It has been proposed that He retention in is linked damage dose, evolution of closure temperature low values associated a ?-dose (<1016 ?/g), subsequently increasing before decreasing again at very high (>1018 ?/g). Studies have focused on diffusion behavior ?-dose, but little known doses. We propose ranging 6 × 1015 4 1016 ?/g range ~60–80 °C. This value lower current model ZRDAAM demonstrates AHe methods could temperatures (i.e., ages). These strengthen our previous geological conclusions even highlight cooling rate approximately twice as important deduced alone Machu Picchu.

Thermal annealing mechanisms of latent tracks: Apatite versus zircon

Etched tracks of apatite and zircon are both widely used for the determination of the thermal history of Earth’s crust. The present understanding of the annealing process is largely limited to mathematical fits to data for etched track-lengths as a function of temperature and time. Details of the annealing of unetched, latent tracks at the atomic scale have remained elusive, as the original tra...

Patterns of Late Cenozoic exhumation deduced from apatite and zircon U-He ages from Fiordland, New Zealand

[1] New apatite and zircon (U-Th)/He ages from the Fiordland region of New Zealand’s South Island expand on earlier results and provide new constraints on patterns of Late Cenozoic exhumation and cooling across this region. Zircon (U-Th)/He cooling ages, in combination with increased density of apatite ages, show that in addition to a gradual northward decrease in cooling ages that was seen dur...

Cosmogenic and nucleogenic He in apatite, titanite, and zircon

Cosmogenic He was measured in apatite, titanite, and zircon and cosmogenic Ne in quartz at 13 depth intervals in a 2.7-m long drill core in a Miocene ignimbrite from the Altiplano of Bolivia. All three He depth profiles as well as the Ne profile attenuate exponentially with depth, indicating that both of these isotopes are cosmogenic in origin with no significant contribution from other sources...

Plio-Quaternary exhumation history of the central Nepalese Himalaya: 1. Apatite and zircon fission track and apatite [U-Th]/He analyses

[1] New apatite and zircon fission track and (U-Th)/He analyses serve to document the bedrock cooling history of the central Nepalese Himalaya near the Annapurna Range. We have obtained 82 apatite fission track (AFT), 7 zircon fission track (ZFT), and 7 apatite (U-Th)/He (AHe) ages from samples collected along the Marsyandi drainage, including eight vertical relief profiles from ridges on eithe...
